Course Rules for the Diploma of Sustainable Living (Z1K)

1. These Specifications apply to the Diplomas offered by the University College (UC) as listed in Schedule B. These specifications shall take effect on 1 January 2017 and shall apply to all candidates for the UC Diplomas listed in Schedule B.
2. Candidates for UC Diplomas shall be admitted in accordance with Rule 3 Admission and Student Progress.
3. Candidates are given 3 years to complete the degree requirements, calculated from the commencement of the first subject.
4. Degree Requirements 

4.1 Each UC Diploma comprises 8 units (12.5 equivalent).

4.2 The UC Diplomas have a nominal degree length of 1 year.

5. General Diploma

The General Diploma comprises 8x units.

5.1. Required number units:

Degree elective subjects are those chosen from a schedule provided by the University College;

Student elective subjects are those selected by candidates from any available units/subjects in which they are qualified to enrol (including college offered units).

The models are identified in the relevant course schedule together with details of the availability of subjects.

Units
Unlike other Diplomas offered by the University College, the Diploma of Sustainable Living utilises graduate curriculum comprising of semester based 12.5 weighted units. The Diploma of Sustainable Living will not be taught on a term based subject paired basis.

6. Enrolment Conditions

6.1 UC Diplomas may serve as an entry or exit point from UC Associate Degrees (as determined by each course proposal).

6.2 Enrolment in the UC Diploma, and all subjects comprising them, will be in accordance with requisites and enrolment conditions determined by the University College.

6.3 When two or more subjects of the same name or content are offered within the University, only one may be counted towards the degree (the exception to this specification is the Practice and Portfolio subjects, each of which bear the same name but have different subject codes).

7. Enrolment Exemption - credit for previous studies

Passes in units/subjects in other incomplete courses within the University of Tasmania, or another approved tertiary institution (or other approved professional examining body) may be credited towards the Diploma and a course plan developed to detail the subjects required by the student to qualify for the degree. The maximum credit granted will be in accordance with the limits as stated in Rule 6 Admission and Student Progress.

8. Transition

Students who have passed units under existing awards (College Diplomas/associate degrees under current or the previous specifications and Diplomas/associate degrees from other institutions) will be entitled to transfer to a UC Diploma under these specifications, with credit as deemed applicable by the course coordinator. The transition for continuing students to these specifications will be managed carefully to ensure students are not disadvantaged.
