The unit aims to develop a good understanding of the framework and key concepts of Australian environmental law, including planning and development control, environmental impact assessment, biodiversity and heritage conservation. The unit will include some Tasmanian case studies along with material from Victorian and New South Wales jurisdictions and relevant Federal legislation. Dispute resolution will also be covered.

ASSESSMENT: Class presentation (10%), mid-semester take-home exercise (40%), final exam (50%). NB: For Honours-eligible students only a 50% research paper may be undertaken.
TEACHING PATTERN: Two one hour lectures per week, plus one one-hour tutorial every second week.
Units are offered in attending mode unless otherwise indicated (that is attendance is required at the campus identified). A unit identified as offered by distance, that is there is no requirement for attendance, is identified with a nominal enrolment campus. A unit offered to both attending students and by distance from the same campus is identified as having both modes of study.
