Property Law A provides students with an understanding of the critical importance that the concept of property plays in Australian society. Three themes are central to this unit - what makes something property, how is property acquired and how is it disposed. These themes are applied to both personal and real property. Native title, intellectual property and adverse possession are considered as discrete topics with a detailed examination of the systems of land registration. In undertaking this examination of land registration, the principal and extensive focus will be the Torrens system. Practical legal skills incorporated in this unit include statutory interpretation, advanced oral presentation skills and advanced legal research skills. The knowledge obtained in this unit will form the basis of studies for Property Law B.
