DESCRIPTION

Students of this unit examine the problems and tasks involved in maintaining secure computer systems together with the techniques available to help with these tasks. Computing techniques such as those built into operating systems for access control, the concepts of encryption, and some of the associated protocols are studied. These are then placed into the context of the overall operation of an organisation. This leads to an examination of secure methods of using private and public networks, business continuity planning, and application examples including the Internet and electronic commerce.
