In this unit the teaching staff use popular operating systems such as UNIX, Windows, and Macintosh OS as examples to introduce the essential components of modern operating systems: process management, memory management, file management, device management, networking, protection and security, and command interpreter. The teaching staff will emphasize the characteristics of network operating systems. Students will also study UNIX shell programming (scripting) which is essential for UNIX system administration.
