About Census Dates

DESCRIPTION

This unit introduces the concepts of information systems in a business environment. This unit examines what is meant by information systems, why they are used in business and what is involved in developing, managing and controlling business information systems. The unit also explores how to promote services and communicate with business, partners and suppliers.

Topics include:

  • Business issues - functions, competitive advantage, e-business
  • Technology and Communicating with people - ICT, Ethics and Communication methods
  • Development & Management of Information Resources and Business Intelligence
  • Business and Systems Modelling
  • Business Case analysis and development

This unit is designed to develop proficiency in business communication, systems modelling and business problem solving.

WEIGHT:  12.5%

ASSESSMENT:

60% In-semester Assessment (3 reports) and 40% Exam

TEACHING PATTERN: 2 hrs lectures, 1-hr practical, weekly
