Covers organic aspects of chemistry with particular emphasis on the interrelationships of organic chemistry with the life sciences. Initial lectures include the fundamental aspects of spectroscopic techniques applicable to a wide range of chemical studies, followed by lectures in: functional group chemistry, particularly relating structure to properties; and bio-organic chemistry. Laboratory sessions include experiments illustrating specific lecture topics, and small-scale preparation of organic compounds.
Units are offered in attending mode unless otherwise indicated (that is attendance is required at the campus identified). A unit identified as offered by distance, that is there is no requirement for attendance, is identified with a nominal enrolment campus. A unit offered to both attending students and by distance from the same campus is identified as having both modes of study.
