Is designed to provide the opportunity to develop knowledge and skills in research oriented towards genetics and/or molecular studies, beyond that experienced in an undergraduate degree course. Students are assessed in the following and are required: (a) to carry out an intensive research project on an approved topic under a supervisor approved by the Board of Studies in Science, and to submit the findings in a thesis. Three copies of the research thesis (typed on A4 paper and bound) shall be submitted about nine and a half months from the date of commencing study. The normal starting date is in February; but alternative starting dates, such as mid-year, will be considered; (b) to undertake a literature review in a prescribed topic of plant science; (c) to present a seminar which describes the aims and result of the student`s research work; and (d) to write a research proposal within the framework of currently accepted guidelines for research application. At the discretion of the Head of School, students may also undertake additional coursework.
