DESCRIPTION

This unit builds on pre-requisite Civil Design units. Two separate Civil Design projects will be completed. Projects will be drawn from a range of Civil Design topics, such as:

• Load demand models and cost structure of hydro-electric schemes
• River diversion techniques for dam construction
• Design of dams and spillways
• Modem tunnelling methods and underground openings
• Earthworks for road design
• Introduction to prestressed concrete bridge design

WEIGHT:  12.5%

ASSESSMENT: continuous assessment of project work

TEACHING PATTERN: 78 hrs design office work
