This unit will present an overview of cognitive behaviour change procedures in terms of their theoretical bases and practical considerations. Cognitive skill procedures will be reviewed in relation to stress management, impulsive behaviours, substance use, violence, health and life style issues, and relationship matters. Practical skill will be emphasised in relation to the assessment and implementation of cognitive strategies. Further, the unit will cover issues related to working with couples and groups, examining couple development, patterns of communication, and basic concepts when working with couples, groups and families.
