Lectures in psychological assessment provide a comprehensive coverage of psychological assesment, with an emphasis on the assessment of adults. The lectures aim to promote an understanding of fundamental concepts in assessment and an awareness of issues in the use of assessment data. Topics focus on psychological testing and include test standardisation, validity and reliability in traditional tests. The lectures also aim to familiarise students with the major abilities and personality tests, as well as ethical issues in administering such tests, interpreting test results and the application of test results in everyday life. Lectures in individual differences review some of the issues related to the psychological concept of intelligence and major theories of cognitive abilities, and consider the psychometric strutures proposed for personality.
In laboratory classes students particpate in assessment exercises linked to the lectures, look at the uses and limitations of assessment data, and gain hands-on experience of assessment techniques and the interpretation of test results.
