This unit provides an advanced coverage of the area of human and cognitive neuroscience. Cognitive neuroscience investigates cognitive concepts and studies mind/brain matters utilising psychophysical, psychophysiological, and brain imaging techniques. Neuroscience lectures build on the introductory work covered in KHA103 and KHA104 and also on the intermediate work covered in KHA258. Consideration will be given to the physiological, psychophysiological and cognitive bases of models of human cognitive processing, such as perception, attention, motor control, learning and memory, and language. The lectures will balance cognitive theory with neuroscientific evidence.
Practical work involves hands-on laboratory demonstrations and exercises in some of the topics covered in the lectures. Students will develop advanced skills in reporting findings from psychological research and in critically reviewing literature in the areas covered by the lectures and laboratory classes. Attendance at laboratory classes is compulsory
