DESCRIPTION

This unit continues from KGG255 Surveying 1, further developing a broad knowledge relating to the use and application of different instrumentation and measurement methodologies in the fields of spatial information science and surveying. The unit focuses on instrumentation that includes standard and precise optical and digital levels and electronic and robotic total stations. The unit will also develop understanding of different survey methodologies that apply these instruments and measurement tools, with emphasis on calibration requirements and survey standards. These methodologies include standard differential and precise levelling, trigonometrical heighting, resection, traversing, detail surveying and coordinate set-out. Students will use survey software to reduce field observations and create survey plans and CAD drawings from their practical work. The unit will also introduce students to the concepts and methodologies required to compute and interpret survey data referenced to the Map Grid of Australia (MGA).
