DESCRIPTION
This unit is designed to assist students to think creatively about the relationship between buildings and their immediate landscape surroundings. It will examine a wide variety of approaches to such designed landscapes, from the ancient civilizations of China, Japan, and the Middle East, through the Western European tradition, to the situation in Europe, North America and Australia in recent times. The unit will encourage the application of good design principles to new projects, derived from a deep understanding of the work of others. Emphasis will be placed upon landscape design in relation to architecture, rather than landscape design as a separate discipline.
