DESCRIPTION This unit examines the history and theory of architecture, interior design, furniture design and garden design in the second half of the 20th century. It develops an understanding of the complex interweaving of modernist, regionalist and postmodernist approaches in the period. Through the study of significant historical developments, the unit aims to develop a richly informed approach to contemporary design.

ASSESSMENT:
Verbal and graphic analysis assignment (30%), essay (35%) and visual test (35%).
Students not enrolled in BEnvDes may choose to submit another essay in place of the analytical drawing assignment.
TEACHING PATTERN:
Two hour lecture per week (13 weeks).
Two hour tutorial or seminar per week (13 weeks).
