Examines patterns of change and continuity, and conflict and consensus in Australia from the end of World War I to the end of the Whitlam years. Topics include, progressivism in the 1920s; Australia and the world depression in the 1930s; the second world war and its implications for Australia; economic and social transformations of the late 1940s and 50s, especially the impact of Menzies and migration; exploration of how far the 1960s saw a social and cultural revolution in Australia; the impact of the Whitlam government and social movements involving women, Aborigines, and the Greens.
