DESCRIPTION
This unit will examine the origins, theory and practice of public administration and management in modern political systems. Bureaucracy, responsible government, the career service, and the politics, principles and criticisms of 'managerialism' will be examined. The unit will examine the principles of strategic management and planning, budgeting and financial management, performance management and review, organisational design, personnel management and information systems.

Online seminar participation (20%); 1500-word discussion paper/short essay (20%); 1000-word research essay outline (10%); 3500-word research essay (50%)

Hobart face-to-face offering:
