About Census Dates

DESCRIPTION

Unit examines the central approaches to understanding the policy process. Key phases of this process will be explored including the initiation, development, implementation, evaluation and analysis of public policy. Difficulties and ambiguity inherent within political decision making will also be analysed with reference to contemporary policy design. Relevant Tasmanian and Australian case studies and scenarios are used to illustrate and explore the various facets of the policy process. A key activity for the unit is preparation of a case study for publication and dissemination through the Tasmanian Government Department of Economic Development.

WEIGHT:  25%

ASSESSMENT: 3,000 word critical essay (30%); essay poster presentation (5%); 5,000 word case study report (55%); oral presentation of report (10%).

TEACHING PATTERN: 2 hr seminar weekly (13 wks)
