DESCRIPTION Examines the roles and functions that the police play as a major agency of governance in society. The structures and strategies of policing are analysed and the relationships between the police, other governmental institutions and the general public are discussed. Contemporary issues concerning police accountability, police culture, police deviance, oversight authorities, the managerial approach to policing, the marketisation of policing, community policing and transnational crime are examined.
