DESCRIPTION
Provides an introduction to basic Chinese language as well as to contemporary Chinese culture and society. Students participate in excursions and activities, including visits to historical sites, museums and galleries.
Topics covered include: basic conversational Chinese; calligraphy; Taichi; lectures on popular culture; population control; history; social change; Chinese medicine, and other topics on social and political change.
Please note there is an additional cost for this unit which includes food, accommodation, local travel, excursions.

Written assignments totaling 2,000 words (10%); 1x 1,500 word essay (15%); presentation of photo journal (5 photos with analysis) (5%); 2-hr exam (20%)

Language component (50%)
Weekly classroom assignments (20%); aural/oral exam (15%); written language exam (15%)
