About Census Dates

DESCRIPTION

Explores a range of issue relevant to the geographic region known as Asia, such as the enormous diversity of peoples and cultures, and even the 'idea' of 'Asia' itself. The unit examines religion and belief systems (including indigenous belief systems, Buddhism, Hinduism, Confucianism, Daoism and Islam), the notion of 'family' and its place within a broader social structure, and the design and ritual significance of houses and gardens, communities and cities.

WEIGHT:  12.5%

ASSESSMENT: Reflective Journal (5 x 200 word entries) 1,000 words [20%]; Group Poster project [20%]; Essay x 1500 words [20%]; Examination (2hrs) [40%]

Hurdle requirements: Students must pass an in-class test on the map of Asia in week 3.

TEACHING PATTERN: 2 hrs lectures, 1 tutorial weekly
