Examines the social situations of immigrants in contemporary Australian society. Immigration, adaptation and ethnicity are analysed from a sociological perspective; cultural identity, ethnic diversity and multiculturalism are explored as central themes; and current debates on immigrant and refugee groups are examined critically through a focus on empirical research. The Australian context is located comparatively through an examination of immigration in North America and Western Europe.
