About Census Dates

DESCRIPTION
The unit provides an introduction to social research as practiced in the social sciences, particularly sociology and political science. Students will be introduced to research methods that enable the collection and analysis of data relating to a range of social phenomena. They will consider how social data are patterned, construct hypotheses to account for social regularities, and empirically examine social data using a variety of research methods.

WEIGHT:  12.5%

ASSESSMENT:

200 Level: 2 multiple choice tests, equivalent to 1,000 words (30%), 2,000 word assignment (30%), 2 hr exam (40%)
300 Level: 2 multiple choice tests, equivalent to 1,000 words (30%), 2,500 word assignment (30%), 2 hr exam (40%)

TEACHING PATTERN: Internal: 2 lectures and 1 hr lab/tutorial weekly
Distance: web based delivery and 2 study schools
