Media engagement is a central component of contemporary communications strategies. This unit provides students with the necessary skills to successfully relate with media, and includes two days of professional media training. The unit also provides contexts for historical and current media and public relations practice. Students are equipped to interact professionally with the media, to set clear communications goals and strategies, and to build an effective media relations campaign, as well as gaining an understanding of media and communications practice more broadly.

ASSESSMENT: Media releases (1500 words) 20%, feature or electronic news release (1500 words or equivalent) 20%, analysis of media campaign (2500 words) 30%, media relations strategy and exegesis (2500 words) 30%.
TEACHING PATTERN: 26 contact hours (normally 2-hour weekly seminars in weeks 1-4 and 9-13 plus 2-day media training)
Units are offered in attending mode unless otherwise indicated (that is attendance is required at the campus identified). A unit identified as offered by distance, that is there is no requirement for attendance, is identified with a nominal enrolment campus.
