About Census Dates

DESCRIPTION

Introduces students to aspects of diagnostic microbiology, with an emphasis being placed on virology, parasitology and mycology. Aspects of the epidemiology, pathogenesis, control and treatment of infectious diseases are addressed; knowledge of diagnostic laboratory procedures including rapid and automated methods is developed; and good professional laboratory practice including laboratory safety, waste management and quality control are taught.

WEIGHT:  12.5%

ASSESSMENT: Case presentation (500 words max. plus Powerpoint slides & presentation)(10%); In class tests (20%); 1 x Assignment (5 x A4 pages max)(10%); 2 x 2-hr mid-semester practical exam (30%); Final 2-hour theory exam (30%).

TEACHING PATTERN: 2-hr lecture (13 weeks), 1-hr tutorial (13 weeks), 3-hr practical (8 weeks).
