About Census Dates

DESCRIPTION

Builds on foundations taught in CXA237 Exercise Physiology & Nutrition. Students obtain an increased understanding of metabolism in the human body and the role of carbohydrates, fats, proteins and minerals in both health and under physiological stress of exercise and disease. The unit will cover a range of nutritional problems in the population, such as alcohol excess and undernutrition, and the role of nutrition in the prevention and management of chronic diseases, such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes and some cancers.

WEIGHT:  12.5%

ASSESSMENT: Critical review assignment (15%), mid semester test (15%), dietary analysis assignment (20%), 2-hr final examination (50%).

TEACHING PATTERN: 2-hr lecture/seminar (13 weeks), 4 practical sessions
