DESCRIPTION

This unit gives an understanding of the metabolism and function of hormones; and includes: the laboratory investigation of disorders of hormonal function including thyroid, pituitary, adrenal, hypothalamic, ovarian, testicular and renal hormones; the use of tumour markers in oncology, and other specialised aspects of clinical chemistry tests.

WEIGHT:  12.5%

ASSESSMENT: Mid Semester Test (20%), Case studies assessments (10%), Assignment (10%), Journal Presentation (10%), Final theory 3-hr examination (50%).

TEACHING PATTERN: 2-hr lecture (13 weeks); 2-hr tutorial or 3-hr laboratory/case study session (alternate weeks) (13 weeks).
