SPECIAL NOTE:  Students are required to complete a First Aid Certificate, undertake a Criminal Record Check, provide evidence of vaccination history and submit a working with children check prior to commencing the placement componenet of this unit. In order to commence workplace learning outside of the University of Tasmania (including clinical placements and visits) students are required to demonstrate compliance with the Faculty of Health Science and School of Human Life Sciences policies relevant to workplace based learning. These include the Police Check Policy and Procedures, Infectious Disease Policy, Code of Conduct and Student Placement Agreement. Students who do not comply with these policies will not be placed or will be removed from placements and therefore will not be able to complete this unit. Students who have not complied or are unsure of the policies should seek guidance from the School.

DESCRIPTION

This unit provides a structured introduction to the practical aspects of the clinical environment within a medical imaging department and to basic techniques in imaging. This unit considers the radiographic techniques and protocols required for non-contrast examination of the viscreal structures of the thorax, abdomen, upper and lower extremeties. It includes a structured clinical practicum in an appropriate medical imaging department.

WEIGHT:  25%

ASSESSMENT: Theory test (15%), Final portfolio (35%), practical and theory assessment (15% and 15%) and theory exam (20%).

TEACHING PATTERN: Six hours of lectures/tutorials/seminars/practicals-for 7weeks, self-directed learning tasks, practical experience and clinical placement (equivalent to 20 days)
