DESCRIPTION

Introduces students to the fundamental unit of life, the cell. Concepts in basic biochemistry, cell biology, microbiology, molecular biology and genetics are covered in this unit, and form a fundamental core of knowledge to which students will refer throughout their further biological studies.

WEIGHT:  12.5%

ASSESSMENT: (theory) library assignment (15%), mid-sem test (15%), end-of-sem exam (45%), online referencing quizz (10%), online quizzes (5%); practical report (10%), discussion board (0%).

TEACHING PATTERN: 2 hrs lectures, 2-hr lab/tutorial session weekly (13 wks)
