Introduces students to the fundamental unit of life, the cell. Human movement will be used as the focus with which to explore concepts in basic biological chemistry, basic biochemistry, cell biology and metabolic processes. A general introduction to the structure and function of body tissues is also outlined. The unit aims to establish a solid foundation for further studies in human biology and human movement sciences. Where possible lecture, practical and tutorial material is supported by human movement examples.

Units are offered in attending mode unless otherwise indicated (that is attendance is required at the campus identified). A unit identified as offered by distance, that is there is no requirement for attendance, is identified with a nominal enrolment campus. A unit offered to both attending students and by distance from the same campus is identified as having both modes of study.
