DESCRIPTION
This unit covers fundamental features and current methods involved in the medicinal chemistry and drug development process. The unit emphasises on lead identification, lead optimisation and the introduction of new drugs into clinical practice. It deals with specific case studies that examine real life drug discovery projects and how a range of drug design techniques are applied in each case and how the method used would impact on the success of the project(s). In addition, novel drug delivery systems (eg recombinant DNA technology, liposome) are also covered in detail.
