DESCRIPTION

This unit revisits the development of the role, responsibilities and scope of practice of a midwife in contemporary Australia. This unit will examine a broad range of contemporary issues and trends that impact on women within the context of childbearing and midwifery practice. It will introduce you to the historical development of midwifery knowledge and the influence of different philosophies in shaping contemporary midwifery knowledge. The political forces that shape midwifery practice are examined and the midwifery image portrayed to the community is explored in the context of society's expectations of the professional midwife.

WEIGHT:  12.5%

ASSESSMENT: 1,500-word assignment (40%), 2,000-word assignment (60%)
