DESCRIPTION

This unit follows on directly from CHP311 Neuroscience A. The unit provides an understanding of contemporary research issues particularly in neural development,biology of neurodegenerative disorders and cellular and molecular neurobiology. The unit emphasises experimental methods and techniques and the evidence on which current understanding of the nervous system is based. It aims to develop the students' understanding of neuroscience research by offering lab placements (approximately 6 hours per week) with research groups. Students will learn good practice in recording experimental data analyse and presentation of scientific knowledge both as a written paper and orally. Teaching includes seminar discussions of published papers inpeer-reviewed journals, and is supported by close supervision of practical laboratory work.

WEIGHT:  12.5%

ASSESSMENT: oral presentation (30%), writtenr eport (30%), lab report (30%), in-course practical assessment (10%).

TEACHING PATTERN:

Seminar discussion, reading of journal papers and practical laboratory work.
