This unit provides students with an understanding of recent important developments in the areas of biochemistry and biotechnology relating to hormones, signal transduction, gene regulation and epigenetics and molecular biology, particularly related to transgenic animals, cloning and the human Genome Project.

ASSESSMENT: Tests during semester 2, 30%; 2 hr written exam at end of semester 2, 70%.
