Course Structure
To qualify for the Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Teaching, students must successfully complete 400% from units in the BSc and BTeach schedules. 212.5% is required for the BSc component and 187.5% for the BTeach component.
The BSc component must include TWO teaching subject areas from the following three areas: (1) information technology (computer science), (2) mathematics and (3) science. One of the two subject areas must be studied to achieve a major and the other a sub-major. A major consists of a 25% first year core , a 25% second year core and 50% at the third year level in a single subject area. A sub-major is defined as 25% first year core and a 25% second year core in a single subject area.
A list of BSc units available is shown under Schedule A of the BSc and the unit combinations which form cores are outlined in Schedule B. Students should note that the science teaching area is confined to chemistry, physics and life sciences (microbiology/immunology, plant science and zoology).
The BTeach component comprises 187.5% of compulsory units detailed in the list following the course structure table.

- Must include three 1st year cores from teaching subject areas in mathematics and/or information technology (computer science core) and/or science (chemistry, physics, plant science and zoology). Note: a maximum of two cores can be studied from subjects in the science teaching discipline. Refer to Schedule B of the BSc for the units which constitute Year 1 cores. The remaining 25% must be selected from Group 1 Science units listed in Schedule A of the BSc. b
- Must include two 2nd year cores from the following: mathematics and/or information technology (computer science core) and/or science (chemistry, microbiology/immunology, physics, plant science and zoology). Note: only one core can be studied from subjects in the science teaching discipline. Refer to Schedule B of the BSc for the units which constitute Year 2 cores. The remaining 12.5% must be selected from Group 2 Science units listed in Schedule A of the BSc. c
- Must include a 3rd year major from chemistry, computer science, mathematics, microbiology/immunology, physics, plant science or zoology. Refer to Schedule B of the BSc for the units which constitute a major. d
- These represent one 12.5% unit each, taken over two years. e
- Students will undertake School Exp 1&2 (Part B) at the end of Year 3 (November) but credited in Semester 1 of Year 4
