Course Structure

This 18 month course consists of 100% coursework [2 core units - The Antarctic Environment and Project Design & Analysis plus 5 (12.5%) electives] and a 50% field study project incorporating a written report. The field study may involve either participating in a Southern Ocean/Antarctic research voyage; working on an Antarctic/sub Antarctic or other high latitude field station; or undertaking a local field, laboratory or literature based project.

Previous study of Antarctic courses and units will be examined and modifications to the above program may be made if the content of the core Antarctic Environment unit has already been studied. In this case 7 elective units will be selected from the elective list, or elsewhere in the University of Tasmania or other approved institutions. Students who have already taken advanced units in statistics may be required to select an additional elective in replacement of Project Design and Analysis.
