Course Structure
These course rules and specifications apply to students commencing the BMus(Hons) in 2008. For students who commenced prior to 2008, the applicable course rules are those from the year of commencement. i.e. students who commenced in 2005 should refer to the 2005 Handbook.
Performance and composition students undertake a year (100%) of specialised study in music performance or music composition including some coursework.
Performance students may elect a year of study comprised of either an integrated research project, consisting of performances and a linked written exegesis, or a series of performances along with an independent practical or written music project (undertaken as a Complementary study).
Composition students must present a folio of compositions and an exegesis or an independent written or practical project (undertaken as a Complementary study).
Musicology and music theory students complete a programme of coursework and write a thesis of approximately 15,000 words.
All music performance and music composition students who elect to complete the exegesis and all musicology and music theory students are required to attend the music research methodology class in semester 1. All students must attend and give a presentation in the Honours Seminar Series in semester 2.
