Course Structure
The Bachelor of Economics is described in terms of 12.5% units. Students may elect to undertake a general economics degree or to complete an economics degree with one or more majors.
To complete the Bachelor of Economics (either a general degree or a degree with one or more majors), students must complete 24 units, including 6 compulsory units. The Economics requirements are as follows:
- a maximum of 10 units (125%) at level 1
- a minimum of 6 units (75%) at level 3
- At least 12 BEA coded units(150%) - not including BEA109, but which may include BFA281. This unit may be counted as a BEA coded unit at Level 100 for a student who enrols for a Finance major;
- Compulsory units: BEA110, BEA130, BEA140, BEA200, BEA220, BEA242 or BEA2/341
- a major, if chosen, is a sequence of eight specialist units which must be completed in addition to the above requirements. The following are the majors taught within the School of Economics and Finance: Finance (FIN), Australian Economy and the Asia Pacific (BAP)*, Economics Analysis (BEA), and Economic Policy (BEP)
Taking into account the above requirements, and to make up the 24 units which are required for the degree, students may include other Economics units from Schedule A, OR, they may include a number of units from other schools, for example: Accounting and Corporate Governance, Management, Administration, Information Systems, Languages, Mathematics, Government, or Psychology.
