Specification

1 In these specifications 'Faculty' means the Faculty of Science, Engineering and Technology.

Entry

2 Candidates for the award of Graduate Diploma of Science (Antarctic and Southern Ocean Studies) shall be qualified for entry in accordance with the following --
[i] holds an appropriate bachelor degree of the University of Tasmania or an equivalent award from another approved tertiary institution
[ii] the standard reached in the award referred to in paragraph [i] is deemed to be at an appropriate level for admission to a postgraduate study in Antarctic and Southern Ocean Studies

Course structure

3 Every candidate other than one whom Faculty may exempt from this condition shall --
[i] attend such lectures, tutorial classes and seminars, pass Such examinations and satisfactorily complete Such exercises, projects or practical work as Faculty may prescribe and
[ii] complete the award in one year of full time Study or not more than three consecutive years of part time study from the date of commencement, provided that --
(a) Faculty may allow a candidate whose work has been interrupted by illness or other unavoidable cause to complete the Course over a longer period; and
(b) the dean or representative of the dean may grant the candidate an extension of time to complete any project prescribed by Faculty as a component of the course.

Miscellaneous

4 The approved abbreviation for the Graduate Diploma of Science (Antarctic and Southern Ocean Studies) shall be GradDipSc(ASOS).
5 These specifications shall take effect from I January 1989.
