Entry

1. Candidates for the Bachelor of Psychology shall be qualified for entry in accordance with the provisions of the University's Rules of Admission.
2. Entry to the Bachelor of Psychology shall be limited in the first year of study and candidates will be ranked on the basis of academic merit based on the Interstate Transfer Index (ITI).
3. Entry to the Bachelor of Psychology in the second and third year of study shall be limited to candidates who have completed the requirements of the previous level of study and achieved in their first attempt an overall GPA of 4 or above in Schedule B units, and a High Distinction average in Schedule A units.
4. Candidates for the degree of Bachelor of Psychology shall complete the degree requirements, as hereinafter prescribed, in not less than four separate years of full-time study (or its equivalent) and not more than nine years from the time of first enrolment.

   Course Structure

5. To qualify for the degree, the candidate shall pass units to a total of 400% comprising:
   [i] compulsory core units totalling 225% and Psychology elective units to a maximum of 75% from Schedule A, provided that
   (a) 25% must be from level 100 units,
   (b) a minimum of 50% and a maximum of 75% must be from level 200 units,
   (c) a minimum of 75% and a maximum of 100% must be from level 300 units,
   (d) 100% must be from level 400
   [ii] elective units from other disciplines selected in accordance with the accompanying schedule to a maximum of 125%, provided that:
   (a) 75% must be from level 100 units listed in Schedule B, except by special permission of the Dean, which includes combinations of 25% as determined by at least two different subject areas
   (b) a maximum of 50% shall be from level 200
   (c) a maximum of 25% shall be from level 300 and undertake such practical exercises/experience as may be required to satisfy the degree requirements.
6. An Honours degree shall be awarded to a Bachelor of Psychology candidate who has obtained in their first attempt the following minimum qualifications:
   [i] First Class Honours
   (a) a High Distinction grade in the research component of the course; and
   (b) an average of at least 75% in 300 level core units and 400 level psychology coursework units
   [ii] Second Class Honours - Upper Division
   (a) a Distinction grade in the research component of the course; and (b) an average of at least 70% in 300 level core units and 400 level psychology coursework units
   [iii] Second Class Honours - Lower Division
   (a) a Credit grade in the research component of the course; and
   (b) an average of at least 65% in level core units and 400 level psychology coursework units
7. The units which may be included in a course for the degree shall, unless otherwise approved by the Dean, be in accordance with Schedules A and B accompanying these specifications.
8. Units may be counted towards the degree only if they have been taken in accordance with prerequisites determined by the Faculties responsible for the units.
9. Not more than 50% may be counted from units in which terminating passes have been awarded, and at least 50% of 300 level units and all 400 level units must be clear passes.
10. A candidate normally may not enrol in any year in units totalling more than 100% weighting, or if the candidate is in full-time employment during any given Semester, more than 50% weighting.
11. Where two or more units of the same name or content are offered within the University, only one may be counted towards the degree.
12. In every case the candidate's choice of units and the order in which they are taken shall be subject to approval by the Dean in accordance with the requirements of paragraph 5.

    Credit for Previous Studies

13. Passes in subjects or units in other courses (completed or otherwise) in this University or another approved tertiary institution (or other approved professional examining body) may be credited towards the degree, provided that the Faculty may specify what more a candidate so credited shall be required to do to qualify for the degree.

    Miscellaneous

14. The Faculty may from time to time make amendments to the Schedules to these specifications.
15. These specifications shall take effect on 1 January 2005 and shall apply to all candidates for the degree, including those enrolling for the first time in that year and those enrolled subsequently.
16. The approved abbreviation for the degree of Bachelor of Psychology shall be BPsych. The approved abbreviation for the degree of Bachelor of Psychology with Honours shall be BPsych(Hons).
