Specification

Entry

1. Candidates for the Bachelor of Antarctic Studies with Honours shall be qualified for entry in accordance with the following: [i] holds a an appropriate bachelor degree of the University of Tasmania or an equivalent award from another approved tertiary institution.

2. Candidates for the Bachelor of Antarctic Studies with Honours shall complete the degree requirements, as hereinafter prescribed, in not more than one year of full-time study (or its equivalent) from the time of first enrolment.

Course Structure

3. To qualify for the degree of Bachelor of Antarctic Studies (Honours), the candidate shall pass all units as listed in Schedule A.

4. Every candidate other than one whom Faculty may exempt from this condition shall:

[i] attend such lectures, tutorial classes and seminars, pass such examinations and satisfactorily complete such exercises, projects or practical work as prescribe.

[ii] submit a thesis on work undertaken as part of the honours course.

[iii] complete the requirements for the degree within a period specified by the dean or representative of the dean, provided that - (a) the maximum period shall not exceed twelve months from the date of commencement. (b) the dean or representative of the dean may extend the maximum period to twenty-four months in a case of a part-time candidate. (c) The dean or representative of the dean may grant an extension of time to a candidate who has been prevented by illness or other serious cause from completing the requirements of the course within the period prescribed above.

5. Except by special permission of Faculty, there shall be no re-examination for honours in any one subject.

6. The classes of honours shall be first class, second class, and third class. There shall be an upper and lower division in the second class.

Miscellaneous

7. The Faculty may from time to time make amendments to the Schedules to these specifications.

8. These specifications shall take effect on 1 January 2008 and shall apply to all candidates for the degree of Bachelor of Antarctic Studies with Honours, including those enrolling for the first time in that year and those enrolled subsequently.

9. The approved abbreviation for the degree of Bachelor of Antarctic Studies with Honours shall be BAntStud (Hons).
