Specification

Entry

1 Candidates for the degree of Bachelor of Natural Environment and Wilderness Studies shall be qualified for entry in accordance with the provisions of the University's Rules of Admission.
2 Candidates for the degree shall complete the requirements, as hereinafter prescribed, in not less than three separate years of full-time study (or its equivalent) and not more than ten years from the time of first enrolment, including the year of passing the first unit claimed to count towards the degree.

Course structure

3 [i] The Units which may be included in a course for the degree shall, unless otherwise approved by the Dean, be in accordance with Schedules A, B, C, D, E and F of the degree.
[ii] To qualify for the degree, the candidate shall complete 300% from units in Schedules A, B, C, D, E and F provided that:
(a) not more than 100% is from units at 100 level of which at least 25% must be from units in Schedule A, 25% must be from units in Schedule B, and no more than 25% is from units not in these two schedules;
(b) at least 75% is from 300 level units;
(c) at least 25% is taken from units in each of Schedules C, D, E and F, with no more than 25% of 200 level and 25% of 300 level units being taken from outside these schedules;
(d) not more than 37.5% is counted from units in which terminating passes have been awarded.
4 [i] Units may be counted towards the degree only if they have been taken in accordance with prerequisites determined by the Faculties that teach the units.
[ii] A candidate normally may not enrol in any year in units totalling more than 100% weighting, or if the candidate is in full-time employment during any given semester, more than 50% weighting.
[iii] Where two or more units of the same name or content are offered within the University, only one may be counted towards the degree.
[iv] In every case the candidate's choice of units and the order in which they are taken shall be subject to approval by the Dean in accordance with the requirements of paragraph 3.

Credit for previous studies

5 Passes in units in other courses (completed or otherwise) at this University or another approved tertiary institution (or other approved professional examining body) may be credited towards the degree, provided that the Faculty of Science, Engineering and Technology may specify what more a candidate so credited shall be required to do to qualify for the degree.

Miscellaneous

6 The Faculty of Science, Engineering and Technology may from time to time make amendments to the schedules to these specifications.
7 These specifications shall take effect from 1 January 2003 and shall apply to all candidates for the degree, including those enrolling for the first time in that year and those enrolled subsequently and to any candidates who, having commenced their studies for the Bachelor of Natural Environment and Wilderness Studies prior to that date, have not passed in any units towards the degree by that date.
8 Candidates who have passed units towards the degree under specifications in force prior to 1 January 2003 will be entitled to follow these specifications with full equivalent credit or graduate in accordance with those specifications operating at the time of their admission to candidature.
9 Should any difficulty arise for a candidate previously enrolled because of any difference between course requirements and units offered under these specifications and those previously in force, the Faculty of Science, Engineering and Technology shall ensure that the candidate is not materially disadvantaged by these specifications.
10 The approved abbreviation for the degree of Bachelor of Natural Environment and Wilderness Studies shall be BNatEnvWildStud. The approved abbreviation for the degree of Bachelor of Natural Environment and Wilderness Studies shall be BNatEnvWildStud.
