Specification

1 In these specifications: 'Faculty' means the Faculty of Science, Engineering and Technology and 'dean' includes a representative of the dean.

Entry

2 Candidates for the degree of Bachelor of Applied Science (Agriculture) shall be qualified for entry in accordance with provisions of the University's Rules of Admission.
3 Normally candidates for the degree shall complete the degree requirements, as hereinafter prescribed, in not less than three separate years of full-time study (or its equivalent) and not more than nine years, from the time of first enrolment, including the year of passing the first unit claimed to count towards the degree.
4 The units which may be included in a course for the degree shall be in accordance with Schedule A.

Course structure

5 To qualify for the degree, the candidate shall obtain 300% from Schedule A, provided that:
[i] a candidate has completed practical work and submitted written reports as the Faculty may require. Some of this work may need to be undertaken in vacations during the course. Unless the Faculty otherwise determines, this will include at least one week of approved intensive instruction and experience in agricultural practice and management, plus a further period of work on farming properties or in other agricultural enterprises or institutions approved by the dean. Exemption from all or part of this requirement may be granted to candidates who have completed the equivalent of a diploma course, or have obtained other experience satisfactory to the dean;
[ii] the candidate's choice of units, the order in which they are taken and any subsequent variations shall be subject to approval by the dean;
[iii] if a candidate has failed to complete all the units for any one year, approval must be obtained from the dean before enrolling in any units of the following year;
[iv] except with the permission of the dean no student may enrol in units totalling more than 100% each academic year;
[v] terminating passes will be permitted only where the unit is not a pre-requisite for a prescribed unit in a later year;
[vi] not more than 37.5% is counted from units in which terminating passes have been awarded.

Credit for Previous Studies

6 Passes in subjects or units in other courses (completed or otherwise) in this University or another approved tertiary institution (or other approved professional examining body) may be credited towards the degree, provided that the Faculty may specify what more a candidate so credited shall be required to do to qualify for the degree.

Miscellaneous

7 The Faculty may from time to time make amendments to Schedule A.
8 The approved abbreviation for the degree of Bachelor of Applied Science (Agriculture) shall be BAppSc(Agr).
