Entry

1 [i] In these Specifications 'Faculty' means the Faculty of Arts acting on the advice of the Board of Humanities and Social Science.
[ii] The Faculty may accept as a candidate for the degree Graduate Certificate in Police Studies any of the following:
(a) an applicant who has qualified for admission to a bachelor degree in the University of Tasmania;
(b) an applicant who holds a degree of another university or tertiary institution approved by the Faculty for this purpose, and who is deemed by the Faculty to be equivalent to a candidate in paragraph (a);
(c) in exceptional circumstances a person who holds a tertiary qualification and whose employment experience indicates a level of knowledge and skill deemed by the Faculty to be sufficient to complete the course satisfactorily.
2 Candidates shall complete the award requirements as hereinafter prescribed, in not less than one semester or a maximum of one year.

Course structure

3 To qualify for the award, the candidate shall successfully complete two units (including the core unit/s) as listed in the accompanying Schedule.
4 [i] Units may be counted towards the award only if they have been taken in accordance with prerequisites and co requisites determined by the Faculty summarised in the Schedule.
[ii] A candidate normally may not enrol in any year in units totalling more than 100% weighting, or more than 50% weighting if the candidate is in full-time employment during any given semester.
[iii] Where two or more units of the same name or content are offered within the University, only one may be counted towards the award.
[iv] In every case the candidate's choice of units and the order in which they are taken shall be subject to approval by the Faculty or in accordance with the requirements of paragraph 3.

Credit for previous studies

5 Passes in subjects or units in other honours or postgraduate courses (completed or otherwise) in this University or another approved tertiary institution (or other approved professional examining body) may be credited towards the award, provided that the Faculty may specify what more a candidate so credited shall be required to do to qualify for the award.

Miscellaneous

6 The Faculty may from time to time make amendments to the Schedule.
7 These specifications shall take effect on 1 January 2002 and shall apply to all candidates for the award.
8 The approved abbreviation for the award of Graduate Certificate in Police Studies shall be GradCertPoliceSt.
