Specification
Entry
1 Candidates for the combined degree of Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Business shall be qualified for entry in accordance with the provisions of the University's Rules of Admission.
2 Normally candidates for the combined degree shall complete the requirements, as hereinafter prescribed, in not less than four separate years of full~time study (or its equivalent) and not more than ten years, from the time of first enrolment, including the year of passing the first unit claimed to count towards the degree.
Course structure
3 [i] To qualify for the combined degree, the candidate shall complete 400% from units in the Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Business combined schedules, which must include a minimum of two majors, one from Arts and one from Business provided that:
(a) In the Bachelor of Arts component, students must complete 200% and must select units to meet the requirements for a major in one discipline or majors in two disciplines. A major is defined as sequential studies in one discipline as follows: -- 25% at 100 level (except where not required for enrolment at 200 level) and -- 75% at 200/300 levels -- a minimum of 100%; -- the maximum percentage at 100 level in any given discipline which may be counted towards the BA is 25 %; -- the maximum percentage in any discipline which may be counted towards the BA is 150%; - at least 25% of units in a major shall be from units at 300 level.
(b) in accordance with the BBus schedule, for the BBus component a candidate must successfully complete 200% comprising six core plus two core elective units at first year and eight units for a Business major over second and third year;
(c) candidates for the degree shall not include subjects taught outside the Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Business degree schedules in the combined degree (ie no Group 1A, 2A or 3A subjects);
[ii] The units which may be included in a course for the degree shall, unless otherwise approved by the deans of the respective faculties, be in accordance with the schedules of the BA and BBus.
4 [i] Units may be counted towards the degree only if they have been taken in accordance with prerequisites determined by the Faculty of Arts and of the Faculty of Business.
[ii] A candidate normally may not enrol in any year in units totalling more than 100% weighting, or if the candidate is in full-time employment during any given semester, more than 50% weighting.
[iii] Where two or more units of the same name or content are offered within the University, only one may be counted towards the degree.
[iv] In every case the candidate's choice of units and the order in which they are taken shall be subject to approval by the deans of the respective faculties in accordance with the requirements of paragraph 3.
[v] Candidates who transfer from the combined degree to the Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Business at any time in their candidature, including after the completion of three years, must satisfy the requirements for the Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Business degree as detailed in the specifications for each course.
Credit for previous studies
5 Passes in subjects or units in other courses (completed or otherwise) in this University or another approved tertiary institution (or other approved professional examining body) may be credited towards the degree, provided that the Faculty of Arts and the Faculty of Business may specify what more a candidate so credited shall be required to do to qualify for the degree.
Miscellaneous
6 The Faculty of Arts and the Faculty of Business may, from time to time make amendments to the schedules to these specifications.
7 These specifications shall take effect on 1 January 2005 and shall apply to all candidates for the degree, including those enrolling for the first time in that year and those enrolled subsequently. Candidates who have passed in units towards the BA-BCom and the BCom-BA under the specifications in force prior to 1 January 2005 will be entitled to graduate in accordance with those degree specifications operating at the time of their admission to candidature or to transfer to the revised BA-BBus with credit.
8 The approved abbreviation for the combined degree of Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Business shall be BA-BBus.
