Specification

In these specifications 'Faculty' means the Faculty of Health Science. |
Entry

To qualify for admission, a candidate for the Master of Pharmaceutical Science must have a minimum of a science-based bachelor degree of the University of Tasmania or of another university or tertiary institution deemed to be equivalent. |

In the case of a bachelor degree awarded within three years prior to a candidate's application for admission, a minimum average of 60% must have been obtained in the final two years of study. |

[ii] |
Alternatively, appropriate postgraduate employment experience of three or more years will be considered as a suitable basis for admission. |

A candidate shall complete the degree requirements, as hereinafter prescribed, normally in not less than 12 months of full-time study (or 24 months of part-time study) and in no more than 24 months of full-time study (or 48 months of part-time study) from the time of first enrolment. |
Course Structure

To qualify for the degree, a candidate must complete a load of 137.5%, comprising a supervised research project of 50% and all other units specified in the Schedule accompanying these specifications, and undertake such practical exercises/experience as may be required to satisfy the degree requirements. |

In exceptional circumstances approval may be given to students initially enrolled in the Master of Pharmaceutical Science to complete only the Graduate Diploma of Pharmaceutical Science. |

[i] |
Where two or more units of the same name or content are offered within the University, only one may be counted towards the degree. |

[ii] |
In every case the candidate's choice of units and the order in which they are taken shall be subject to approval in accordance with the requirements of paragraph 3. |

A candidate entering clinical practice in a clinical agency shall observe the rules, regulations, policies, protocols, procedures and by-laws of that clinical agency. |
Credit for Previous Studies

Passes in subjects or units in other courses (completed or otherwise) in this University or another approved tertiary institution (or other approved professional examining body) may be credited towards the degree, provided that the Faculty may specify what more a candidate so credited shall be required to do to qualify for the award. |

Passes in the Graduate Diploma of Pharmaceutical Science can be credited towards the degree for up to 87.5% of the Schedule. |
Miscellaneous
| 10 |
Except by special permission of the Faculty there shall be no re-examination for the degree. |
| 11 |
The Faculty may from time to time make amendments to the Schedule to these specifications. |
| 12 |
These specifications shall take effect from 1 January 2003 and shall apply to all candidates for the degree, including those enrolling for the first time in that year and those enrolled subsequently. |
| 13 |
The approved abbreviation for the Master of Pharmaceutical Science shall be MPharmSc. |
