Specification

1 In these specifications 'Faculty' means the Faculty of Health Science.

Entry

2 The Faculty may accept as a candidate for the award of Graduate Diploma of Medical Laboratory Science a person who:

1. has qualified for admission to the degree of Bachelor of Health Science or Bachelor of Science or another approved bachelor degree of the University of Tasmania, or holds a degree or other tertiary qualifications deemed by the Faculty to be equivalent for this purpose; and
2. has satisfied the prerequisites prescribed by the Faculty for the course of study as prescribed in Schedule A or provides appropriate evidence to Faculty for entry to the Graduate Diploma.

3 Candidates for the Graduate Diploma shall complete the requirements, as hereinafter prescribed, in not less than one calendar year of full-time study (or its equivalent) and not more than three years from the time of first enrolment.

Course Structure

4 To qualify for the Graduate Diploma, the candidate shall complete 100% as prescribed in Schedule A.

5 The units which may be included in the Graduate Diploma shall, unless otherwise approved by the dean, be in accordance with Schedule A, accompanying these specifications.

6 Units may be counted towards the Graduate Diploma only if they have been taken in accordance with the prerequisites determined by the Faculty.

7 Where two or more units of the same name or content are offered within the University, only one may be counted towards the Graduate Diploma.

Credit for Previous Studies

8 Credit will only be granted in recognition of previous studies if they have been undertaken as part of a postgraduate program.

Miscellaneous

9 The Faculty may from time to time make amendments to Schedule A to these specifications.

10 These specifications shall take effect from 1 January 2007 and shall apply to all candidates for the Graduate Diploma, including those enrolling for the first time in that year and those enrolled subsequently.

11 The approved abbreviation for the Graduate Diploma of Medical Laboratory Science shall be GradDipMedLabSc..
