Specification
Entry
1. Candidates for the combined degree Bachelor of Health Science and Bachelor of Teaching shall be qualified for entry in accordance with the provisions of the University's Rules of Admission, and have at least one pre-tertiary science unit.
2. Normally, candidates for the combined degree shall complete the requirements, as hereinafter prescribed, in not less than four separate years of full-time study (or its equivalent) and not more than ten years from the time of first enrolment.
Course structure
To qualify for the combined degree, the candidate shall complete 400% from units in the Bachelor of Teaching Schedule and the Bachelor of Health Science component schedule for the combined degree, provided that:
[i] In the Bachelor of Health Science component, students must complete 212.5% from the schedule
[ii] In the Bachelor of Teaching component, students must complete 187.5% as outlined in Schedule A, provided that:
(a) Students enrol in two Curriculum and Method Studies areas (i) Health and (ii) Technology - Food Studies) which must include ESP 311 Human Movement Pedagogy, ESP XXX Health Education Issues 1 and ESP xxx Health Education Issues 2; and ESA 123 Technology A and ESA 223 Technology B.
(b) Students must complete the following Curriculum and Methods subjects: ESP311, ESP317, ESA123 ESPXXX (Health Education Issues - new unit) and ESA223
(c) Students enrol in Multi-literacies 1& 2 (Combined Degrees). ESA 107 and ESA 207
[iii] The units that may be included in a course for the combined degree shall, unless otherwise approved by the respective Dean, be in accordance with the schedules of the Bachelor of Teaching degree and the Bachelor of Health Science component schedule to the combined degree.
4. [i] Units may be counted towards the degree only if they have been taken in accordance with prerequisites determined by the Faculties of Education and of Health Science.
[ii] Where two or more units of the same name or content are offered within the University, only one may be counted towards the degree.
[iii] In every case the candidate's choice of units and the order in which they are taken shall be subject to approval by the respective dean in accordance with the requirements of paragraph 3.
[iv] Candidates who transfer from the combined degree to the Bachelor of Health Science at any time in their candidature, including after the completion of three years, must satisfy the requirements for the Bachelor of Health Science degree as detailed in the specifications for that course.
Credit for previous studies
5. Passes in subjects or units in other courses (completed or otherwise) at this University or another approved tertiary institution (or other approved professional examining body) may be credited towards the degree, provided that the Faculties of Education and of Health Science may specify what more a candidate so credited shall be required to do to qualify for the degree.
Miscellaneous
6. The Faculties of Education and of Health Science may from time to time make amendments to the schedules to these specifications.
7. These specifications shall take effect on 1 Jan 2005 and shall apply to all candidates for the combined degree, including those enrolling for the first time in that year and those enrolled subsequently.
8. The approved abbreviation for the combined degree of Bachelor of Health Science and Bachelor of Teaching shall be BHlthSc-BTeach.
