Specification

Entry

1. Candidates for the degree of Bachelor of Medical Research shall be qualified for entry in accordance with the provisions of the University's Rules of Admission.

2. Candidates for the degree shall complete the requirements, as hereinafter prescribed, in not less than three separate years of full-time study (or its equivalent) and not more than eight years from the time of first enrolment.

Course structure

3. To qualify for the degree, the candidate shall pass 300% from units in the BMedRes schedules, comprising:

  1. i. Core units (schedule A) to a minimum of 237.5% chosen as follows:
    1. 162.5% from schedules A1 and A2; i.e. all first and second year core units.
    2. 75% from schedule A3 (third year core units).
  2. Elective units (schedule B)
    1. A maximum of 25% from Schedule B1 (first year elective units).
    2. A minimum of 25% and a maximum of 37.5% from Schedule B2 (second year elective units).
    3. A maximum of 25% from schedule B3 (third year elective units).

4. A candidate may count a maximum of 37.5% of Terminating Passes towards the degree.

5. The units which may be included in a course for the degree shall, unless otherwise approved by the Course Coordinator, be in accordance with Schedules 1A, 1B, 2A, 2B, 3A, 3B, accompanying these specifications.

6. Units may be counted towards the degree only if they have been taken in accordance with prerequisites determined by the Faculties offering the units.

7. A candidate normally may not enrol in any year in units totalling more than 100% weighting.

8. Where two or more units of the same name or content are offered within the University, only one may be counted towards the degree.

Credit for previous studies

9. Passes in subjects or units in other courses (completed or otherwise) in this University or another approved tertiary institution (or other approved professional examining body) may be credited towards the degree, provided that the Faculty may specify what more a candidate so credited shall be required to do to qualify for the degree.

Miscellaneous

10. The Faculty may from time to time make amendments to the Schedules to these specifications.

11. These specifications shall take effect on 1 January 2005 and shall apply to all candidates for the degree, including those enrolling for the first time in that year and those enrolled subsequently.

12. The approved abbreviation for the degree of Bachelor of Medical Research shall be BMedRes.
