Specification

Entry

1. Candidates for the degree of Bachelor of Applied Science (Marine Environment) with Honours require the approval of the National Centre Director and the AMC Research Committee and shall have qualified for admission to the degree of Bachelor of Applied Science (Marine Environment) at this University or have obtained an equivalent qualification at another approved tertiary institution. Candidates would normally be expected to obtain at least a credit average in their third year units.

2. Candidature is subject to appropriate supervision being available for the thesis topic approved by the AMC and subject to satisfying the prerequisites required for the chosen field of study.

3. Candidates for the degree shall complete the degree requirements, as hereinafter prescribed, in not less than one year of full-time study or two years of part time study. Course Structure

4. A candidate for the degree of Bachelor of Applied Science (Marine Environment) with Honours must submit a thesis on work undertaken as part of the Honours course. The requirements for the degree may also include examination or other assessments as prescribed by the National Centre or AMC.

5. Candidates shall complete the requirements for the course within a specified period provided that the maximum period shall not exceed 12 months from the date of commencement for full-time students or 24 months from the date of commencement for part-time students.

6. The National Centre Director may grant an extension of time to a candidate who has been prevented by illness or other serious cause from completing the requirements of the course within the period prescribed in these specifications.

7. pass in units chosen as follows:

(a) 100% of units shall be from Units outlined in Schedule A

and undertake such practical exercises/experience as may be required to satisfy the degree requirements.

8. The classes of honours shall be First Class, Second Class and Third Class. There shall be an upper and lower division in Second Class.

9. The units which may be included in a course for the degree shall, unless otherwise approved by the National Centre Director, be in accordance with Schedule A accompanying these specifications.

10. In every case the candidate's choice of units and the order in which they are taken shall be subject to approval by the National Centre Director in accordance with the requirements of paragraph 3.

12. The Australian Maritime College or the National Centre may from time to time make amendments to the Schedules to these specifications.

13. These specifications shall take effect on 1 January 2009 and shall apply to all candidates for the degree, including those enrolling for the first time in that year and those enrolled subsequently.

14. The approved abbreviation for the degree of Bachelor of Applied Science (Marine Environment) with Honours shall be BAppSc (ME) Hons.
